Final Fantasy X: Trophies

Final Fantasy X Guides, Gaming, Guides

Final Fantasy X is up there on my favourite Final Fantasy list. I played it for far too many hours all those many moons ago when it was first released on Playstation 2 and have been looking forward to doing so again. Well, it’s been a couple of weeks now and I have of course been playing it! You’ll know I’m bit of a trophy hunter so I’m going into this game with the platinum in my line of sight.

This is just a quick overview of the trophies for the game, with a maybe a few hints and tips for a few in particular. As noted on quite of a few below, I’ll be writing some in depth guides once I am a little further into the game.

Right! So, I’m going to start by listing the trophies that won’t even need thinking about. Generally, these are story related or are so easy to get that they’re not worth going into any detail on.

  • Speaking in Tongues – Find 1 Al Bhed Primer
  • Teamwork! – Win a Blitzball match
  • The Right Thing – Clear the Besaid Cloister of Trials
  • A Talent for Acquisition – Steal successfully with Rikku 200 times
  • All Together – All party members come together
  • Heartstrings – View the underwater date scene
  • Show Off! – Win a Blitzball Tournament
  • Overcoming the Past – Defeat Yunalesca
  • The Destination of Hatred – Defeat Seymour Omnis
  • Power Strike – Do 9999 or more damage in a single attack
  • A Journey’s Catalyst – View an Eternal Calm

These should all be relatively straight forward. The remainder might take a little bit more effort. The majority of these ones only really come into play post-game, so you’ll need to get that far pretty smoothly if you’re seriously considering going for the platinum.

I’m going to go through each of the remaining trophies one-by-one.

Completion – Obtain all available trophies

Sounds simple, but there is a lot involved. You’re going to be looking at at least 100+ hours of game play, with a lot of grinding.

Striker – Learn the Jecht Shot

This is actually pretty straight forward if you know what you’re doing. Early on in the game, while on the boat heading to Luca, there will be a sequence in which Tidus has flashbacks of Jecht. The player must press directional buttons that match the direction of where the quotes appear on the screen + the X button. There is a save point on the boat, so you can always reload the game if you don’t succeed the first time around.

Chocobo License – Pass all Chocobo training

You can’t do this one until you reach the Calm Lands. Simply find the lady on the chocobo in the very north west corner of the Calm Lands and compete all Chocobo training exercises.

Lightning Dancer – Dodge 200 lightning strikes and obtain the reward

Sounds simple, but it’s a bloody pain in the arse. To this day I have never completed this. You can obviously only do this in the Thunder Plains, but I would recommend waiting until you can equip no encounters. To get the trophy, you have to open the chest that appears in front of the Inn after successfully dodging the 200 lightning strikes. Good luck!

Update: Got this today using this method. Super glad it’s done!

Feel the Pain – Obtain Anima

Okay, so we’re starting to get a little bit more complicated. This isn’t a missable trophy, but it is best if you ensure you complete the needed tasks as you proceed in the story first time around, otherwise you will have to get past some tough enemies to do them again. Basically, in each temple (except Bevelle) there is a hidden treasure chest within each Cloister of Trials which you must use a destruction sphere to reach. Opening these will later enable you to obtain Anima. I will go into more detail about this in a later guide, but for now, just make sure you get those chests!

It’s All About The Money – Obtain Yojimbo

Just after the Calm Lands, before you enter Mt Gagazet, head down the path on the right. This will lead you to a hidden cavern in which Yojimbo lurks at the end. There is a boss battle just before him, but shouldn’t be too difficult. You will need around 225,000 gil to obtain him however, as you must buy his services.

Delta Attack! – Obtain Magus Sisters

Another hidden Aeon. After obtaining both Anima and Yojimbo, you will want to head back to the Calm Lands and the hidden temple there. But before that, head back to Mt Gagazet and capture at least one of every monster there. The manager at the Monster Arena in the Calm Lands will then give you an item called the Blossom Crown which you need. Get on a chocobo and head to the exit by Bevelle, but instead of leaving the Calm Lands, continue along the path to find the temple. You will find Belgemine, whom Aeon’s you need to defeat in battle. Do all of this and you can obtain the Magus Sisters.

Check out a better guide here.

Theatre Enthusiast – Buy every sphere at the Luca Theatre

Not difficult, you just need a bit of gil, but you can only do this at the end of the game. Reload the game once you have got the trophy to get your gil back.

Chocobo Rider – Win a race with a catcher chocobo with a total time of 0:0:0

This is a good one! You will need to collect around 13 balloons and no birds if possible. How the race starts will have a huge impact on this; you won’t succeed unless the start has balloons primarily on the right hand side.

Under the Table – Spend 100,000 gil or more in bribes

Again, not too tricky. Have someone that knows bribe use it on an enemy. You just need enough gil. Reload the game once you’ve done it to get that hard earned gil back.

Messenger from the Past – Obtain all Jecht Spheres

There are 10 of these dotted around Spira. None are missable.

Chocobo Master – Get 5 treasure chests during the Chocobo Race at Remiem Temple and win the race

This one is a bit of a pain, but just requires a little perseverance. Once you know which route is best, repeat, repeat, repeat. Avoid touching the sides of the paths as this slows you down and definitely do not hit any of the posts.

Sphere Master – Complete a Sphere Grid for one character

Perfect Sphere Master – Complete the Sphere Grid for all main characters

So, these two are rather time consuming. ‘Complete’ means activate every single node on the grid. This involves unlocking all Level 1,2,3,4 nodes and replacing those (as well as any other blank nodes) with other stat spheres.

I’ve written a guide on this here, which I think is the easiest way to do this.

Blitzball Master – Unlock all Slot Reels

For this one, you just need to play a bit of Blitzball. Each is available as a prize in either a tournament or league. If you’re not fussed about your team, you can ‘reset data’ to refresh the prizes, but this resets your team also. Wait until you have the airship so you can easily recruit some good players and guarantee easy wins.

Learning! – Learn to use all enemy abilities

This means Kimahri has to use Lancet and learn every possible move out there. Not too difficult.

Check out my guide on this here.

Summon Master – Obtain all Aeons

Should have this one by now. 😉 For the hidden aeons, I have written a guide.

Weapon Master – Obtain all Celestial Weapons

You have to get everybody’s ‘legendary’ weapons for this one, but you don’t need to power them up to full strength (which makes it a whole lot easier). Guide to follow.

Master Linguist – Find all 26 Al Bhed Primers

This is the only missable trophy in the game. There are 4 primers between Home and Bevelle that you cannot revisit as the areas are no longer available once you have moved on, so make sure you get those ones! Otherwise, this is pretty easy if you follow a location by location list.

I have written a detailed guide on their locations here.

Perseverance – Defeat Penance

Overcoming the Nemesis – Defeat Nemesis

The Eternal Calm – Defeat Yu Yevon

These are three bosses in the game. Yu Yevon is story based and a straight forward battle. The other two however are not. To reach Penance you must defeat all Dark Aeons. To defeat Nemesis, you must capture all monsters in the entire game and then defeat all monsters created in the arena. Both huge jobs, but doable if you have completed the sphere grid.

That covers all of them.

Hopefully that gives you a rough idea about what is involved in fully completing this game. It’s no small task by any means and has both grind and skill based trophies.

Update: I have finally got the Platinum for this game! It took me around 140 hours.
